Ms. Evelyn Mbithi is currently the Senior Manager Market Supervision, Prior to this appointment she was Manager risk and compliance having worked for the Authority for the last 14 years.
Her key responsibilities include providing technical leadership and strategic direction in the planning, coordination, and implementation of supervision programs for market intermediaries, Online Forex Market, Nairobi Securities Exchange, other CMA approved Exchanges, Central Depository & Settlement Corporation, among other regulated persons in line with the capital markets Act, regulatory framework and applicable standards.
Evelyn has wealth of experience in the Capital Markets space having previously worked with the Nairobi Securities Exchange in different departments including the Clearing & Settlement Department which is the current CDSC. She was instrumental in transitioning the Capital Markets Authority from compliance-based supervision regime to risk based supervision approach a model that has been successful in proactive risk management in the industry.
In April/June 2013 Evelyn supported Codogan financial Ltd & Associates through Ms S. Buxton to carried out the regional study on risk-based supervision in EAC Securities Markets. A report that aimed at informing the best suited risk-based model & Capital Adequacy Requirements for EAC Capital Markets Intermediaries. Since then, Evelyn has been involved in capacity building activities in the region on risk-based supervision and has supported a number of exchanges and regulators in understanding risk management and compliance practises as well as assisting in drafting supervisory tools.
Ms. Mbithi has a background in statistics, bachelor of Commerce, MBA in Finance, Member of CISI, ICIFA & Kenya Institute of Management (KIM). Represents the Authority in the Supervisory subcommittee of the Technical Committee (Financial Sector Regulators) as well as the Capital Markets Industry Development Committee among others.
