Ms. Esther Maiyo holds Master’s in Business Administration and Bachelor of Commerce degrees from the University of Nairobi and is professionally qualified as a Certified Public Accountant CPA(K), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Public Secretary, CPS (K), and Certified Investment & Financial Analyst (CIFA).
She is member of ICPAK, ISACA, Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), Chartered Institute For Securities & Investments CISI (UK), Institute of Certified Investment & Financial Analysts (ICIFA), and Institute of Directors (Kenya). She has held Board responsibility as Member of the Public Sector Accounting Standards Board and Women Enterprise Fund for six years in each institution.
Ms. Esther Maiyo has 25 years working experience at the Capital Markers Authority and has held various positions in Finance, Market Supervision, Financial Analysis and Currently as Director, Internal Audit. She has had a short stint as an Accountant in Kengen. She has extensive experience in market supervision, financial management, financial analysis, internal audit and risk management at CMA, the regulatory agency.
At the Authority she was instrumental in operationalization of the Internal audit function, establishment of enterprise risk management, financial review of regulated entities, automation of operational processes and development of manuals and charters.
She was part of the inaugural board of the Public Sector Accounting Standards Board (PSASB) that spearheaded the adoption of the IPSAS in public sector and streamlined the financial reporting by State Corporations, County and National Government entities. With the adoption of accounting and internal auditing frameworks in 2014, there was a notable improvement in the quality of financial records and statements generated by public sector entities. In addition, standard periodic reporting templates and the risk management guidelines were issued, policies on national assets and liabilities approved and a roadmap developed to transition National and County Government entities from cash to accrual accounting.
She was a board member at the Women Enterprise Fund for six years and chaired the Audit, Staff and Administration Committees of the Board. The Government Affirmative Action fund promotes the empowerment of women by providing accessible and affordable credit to support their businesses for wealth and employment creation.
