Mr. Wycliffe Shamiah holds a bachelor's degree in Economics and Mathematics and also a Masters in Business Administration (Finance) from University of Nairobi. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK).
Mr. Shamiah is currently the Director of Market operations at the Capital Markets Authority where he oversees the functions of market supervision, compliance, Licensing & Approvals, Analysis, Surveillance and Investigations & Enforcement which functions are aimed at protecting investors. He has worked at the Capital Markets Authority, Kenya for the last 16 years in various capacities. He has gained wide experience in operations of capital markets.
Between 2008 and 2010, in addition to his regulatory responsibility, he was appointed statutory manager of two huge stockbrokers i.e. Nyaga Stockbrokers Limited and Ngenye Kariuki & Co. that experienced severe financial problems arising from weak management and poor corporate governance practices.
He is an aluminae of the U.S International Visitors Programme and an Associate of Toronto Leadership Center. He represents the interests of regulators at the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK).
Currently he is also the Chairman of the Market Supervision and Risk Management sub-committee of the East African Securities Regulators Forum (EASRA), a regional securities regulators umbrella organization in the East African Community (EAC).
