CMA to participate in World Investor Week 2022
Nairobi, 03 October, 2022..… The Capital Markets Authority (CMA) has announced its participation in the World Investor Week (WIW) 2022 taking place from 3 to 9 October 2022 to enhance investor awareness and protection.
The sixth edition of the week-long WIW campaign is an initiative of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), the global standard setting body of capital markets regulators. The global outreach by capital markets regulators and related institutions seeks to raise awareness of the importance of investor education and protection and to highlight the various initiatives of securities regulators in these two critical areas.
The key messages of the WIW campaign in 2022 will be based on two themes: 1) investor Resilience and 2) sustainable finance. These messages complement those of previous WIW editions, such as frauds and scams, online investing, the basics of investing, and digital learning and online education.
During the WIW 2022, CMA will leverage technology by launching a FinTok competition and inviting the public to participate in creating short videos on specific topics aimed at encouraging investing in capital markets and spread capital markets messages on social media through international collaborative efforts. The Authority will also conduct mass media and social media campaigns with support from market intermediaries. In addition, the Authority will participate in various county initiatives and short messaging campaign in partnership with strategic partners.
The CMA Chief Executive, Mr. Wyckliffe Shamiah observed, “the Authority has continued to implement effective and robust awareness and investor protection strategies and will continue to support the new Government’s agenda in line with the bottom-up economic model by facilitating more retail participation in the capital market’’.
